There is nothing as interesting and entertaining as a well played villain. As a former actor, I know they are definitely the most interesting parts to play...far more rewarding than your typical leading men. Up until recently my title for best evil doer was a tie between Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal and Rutger Hauer in the original version of "The Hitcher". Both actors turned in performances that made your blood run cold...and kept you looking over your shoulder for days after leaving the theatre. I have added another performance to that list...Heath Ledger as the Joker. It is so rare to witness an actor play dark comedy so deftly...to make your blood turn to ice and also elicit a good laugh...and to know just exactly where to draw the line with a sense of timing any actor would kill to possess. What a treat to watch...and what a terrible loss to the acting community.
